Bio

I grew up in a Spanish-speaking home. My interest in the language grew as I got older and began to to read more Spanish-language literature. I have travelled to several Spanish-speaking countries and have had the opportunity to talk to Spanish-speakers of various backgrounds, gaining much cultural knowledge.

When I’m not teaching, my husband and I are hanging out with our six birds and two Golden Doodles (can you tell we love animals?). I enjoy walking and playing with my dogs outside. My creative pursuits include playing the piano and violin, and doing small crafts.

On teaching: I like to ensure that my students begin each class with a review of vocabulary and/or grammar that has been recently learned. Throughout my lessons, I like to provide new material, followed by examples, additional practice, and, if time allows, review games before closing with an exit ticket to ensure understanding. Asking questions is encouraged throughout my lessons. I also enjoy seeing the students participate through repetition and practice. As a teacher, I want to provide a classroom environment where my students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and learning how to correct them so they may become successful Spanish learners.

Question & Answer

What are some ways you've seen students benefit from online learning?

In my time as an online teacher, I have seen many students succeed because of the pace of class and the flexibility to do their work on their own schedules. The interaction in the live classroom is also incredibly beneficial for student engagement and language-learning. I also appreciate that the online classroom helps some students feel more comfortable than in an IRL class.
