The Well-Trained Mind Academy is seeking part-time instructors to teach live, online sections of Creative Writing for the Rhetoric Stage I & II for the 2026-2027 school year. These courses are semester-long courses for high school students, and are offered in the fall or spring semester.
Position Description
Creative Writing classes meet for one contact hour a week. Qualified and interested instructors will be considered for additional courses in their fields of expertise. Online teaching experience required. Must be comfortable working with a small focused team, taking academic direction, and cooperating with other instructors.
This position is part-time. Instructors are hired on a course-by-course basis.
For the 2026-27 school year, we are looking for an instructor to teach our already scheduled classes.
*There may be some flexibility with these scheduled times.
Classes are currently scheduled as follows; all times are in the Eastern Time Zone:
- Creative Writing for the Rhetoric Stage I - Fall 2026 - Monday 3 PM
- Creative Writing for the Rhetoric Stage II - Spring 2027 - Monday 3 PM
This is a US-based position. Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in English, Literature, Creative Writing, or a related field
- Comfortable using Google Drive
- Experience using conferencing software in an educational setting
- Can comfortably work using a screen for several hours in a row
- Ability to balance several tasks at once (delivering lessons while also managing chat, addressing student behavior in real time, ability to answer questions in real time, etc.)
- Engaging presentation style, with ability to monitor student engagement and interest
Preferred Qualifications
- High school and/or college teaching experience (in a classroom and/or a homeschool setting)
- Experience with Canvas, Blackboard, or another LMS
- Experience teaching in a virtual setting
- Adherence to teaching methods conducive to classical education
Compensation
- Compensation is $2,275 per section per semester.
- Tutors are compensated $45/hour.
- Instructors qualify for tuition remission for their dependents (a one-to-one match for every section they teach) and retirement after two years employment.

The Well-Trained Mind Academy is seeking part-time Mathematics instructors to teach live, online Algebra I and Algebra II for the 2026-27 school year (August 1 - May 31).
These are rigorous proof-based math courses, using a problem-solving approach based on the Art of Problem Solving math curriculum.
For the 2026-2027 school year, we are looking to hire for the following section; all times listed are for the Eastern Time Zone (US):
Algebra I - Monday/Wednesday/Friday 1:00 - 2:00 pm (55 minute class period)
Algebra II - Tuesday/Thursday noon - 1:20 pm (1 hour 15 min class period)
Course Description
Our mathematics program uses a classical education approach. Instructors should be comfortable using socratic discussion in classes and allowing students to experiment with methods of solving problems. Classes are taught live using Blackboard Collaborate.

The Well-Trained Mind Academy is hiring individuals to join our substitute and tutoring pool for expository writing.
Our writing courses fall into three groups: basic writing skills, intermediate composition skills (expository writing), and rhetoric.

Prospective substitutes should have availability to teach live, online sections of expository writing during the school day (Eastern Time Zone). Prospective tutors are able to hold sessions during working business hours, evenings, and the weekends.

Substitutes are provided with slides, lecture outlines, and assessments. The substitute does not need to develop their own lesson plans, lectures, or assessments; all materials are provided to the substitute.
Expository writing substitutes and tutors are capable of teaching through the expository sequence.
Classes are taught live using Blackboard Collaborate.
Substitutes are contracted on a course-by-course basis, and for varying durations, depending on needs. All classes are offered during regular business hours in the Eastern Time Zone, and the successful applicant will have consistent part-time availability during the regular school day. Joining the substitute and/or the tutoring pool does not guarantee a minimum number of hours; our substitutes and tutors receive positions on an as-needed basis.
