Sophia Hoff’s poem, “Driving Home in the Rain,” was written for Creative Writing for the Logic Stage. Teacher Lori Huth says of her writing, “There are many wonderful things about Sophia’s poem. It’s a beautiful reflection on, and exploration of, the rain and the feelings that can accompany it. She used some great figurative language, like ‘a depressing / Cotton candy’ and comparing the droplets to race cars. Sophia also did interesting work using line breaks to create rhythmic effects. I especially like the poems’ ending. The ending is satisfying in its tone, but it’s not oversimplified. Instead, it resolves the exploration while still letting readers think about, and feel, the poem’s exploration.”
