Bio

I have been passionate about education for as long as I can remember, from playing “school” as a child to now living out my dream of teaching and learning alongside my children every day. I taught Algebra through Calculus before transitioning to homeschooling in 2014, where I used The Well-Trained Mind approach and taught at a classical co-op for nine years. I believe that a curious mind leads to a rich and enjoyable life and to guide students in that journey is something I hope to do for the rest of my life. I live with my husband, two children, 4 cats, bees, and chickens and we love to adventure together, often escaping the Texas heat for road trips across state lines. We somehow squeeze into our tiny, 30 year old pop-up camper each night, hoping all the duct tape holds us together. At home, when I’m not teaching, I’m listening to audiobooks or leaving long messages on WhatsApp for my girlfriends. And I’m probably obsessing about some sports data, depending on the season.

My goal for teaching mathematics is for each student to not only understand the material through dissecting and manipulating problems, but to understand their mind’s journey to solving puzzles. Through lecture, discussion, and group-work, I want students to focus primarily on the journey towards a solution. Not only do the ‘right’ answers come more easily, students build confidence as problem-solvers, a transferable skill used in many other areas of life and studies.

Question & Answer

What do you like best about WTMA?

The ability to gather together from all over the world in one classroom still amazes me! One great thing about WTMA is the smaller class sizes. The smaller number of students in a class section allows me to match individual and unique learning styles.
