Preparation for Rhetoric Writing

Full-year course. One-year “crash course” preparation for high school rhetoric. Designed for high school students who have missed the prerequisites (at the suggested middle school grades) and need additional training before beginning a formal rhetoric course. Prepares students for entering Rhetoric I. Click here for an explanation of our writing and grammar curriculum, and sample course sequences.

For additional help in placement, see our writing assessment, which will be evaluated by Academy writing instructors.

Prep for Rhetoric was one of my son’s favorite classes, and I attribute that to Mrs. Huth’s clear presentations and the addition of brain breaks. Assignments were predictable, which helped my son get into a good rhythm. I did read some feedback comments on his papers, and I found them to be specific and helpful; comments he can actually use to fix his paper and make it better. Writing can be considered a 'fuzzy' subject, so I think having clear guidance is necessary! Thank you, Mrs. Huth, for making his least-favorite subject one of his favorite classes! - Parent Course Evaluation
The other day my son had to do some writing for an extracurricular project and said, 'Wow, I'm using what I learned!' - Parent Course Evaluation
I could not have asked for a better teacher than Mrs. Huth (so kind, informative and supportive), and the interactions/friendships I have made with fellow classmates will likely outlast the span of the course. Overall, thank you. - Student Course Evaluation
I found the course very worthwhile, as I needed to learn how to do accurate referencing, and also the skill of planning and submitting assignments on time. This course has helped prepare me for higher academic learning. - Student Course Evaluation
