Adulting (“Special Edition”): Using AI for Success in Finance, Work, and Life

Summer course. This special edition Adulting class equips students to master the emerging tools of Artificial Intelligence in everyday adult tasks. Students will use AI software to—plan and develop budgets; conduct ordinary adult life transactions, such as, purchasing a car, finding a home for rent or sale, and acquiring insurance; search and apply for a job; plan an extended trip; conduct research for personal benefit; enhance study techniques; and complete other tasks as assigned. Particular attention will be paid to both the benefits of AI and to its practical, personal, and ethical limits.

Reading material will include two assigned books to consider the proper professional and ethical use of AI in everyday life: Cal Newport’s Digital Minimalism and Josef Pieper’s Leisure as the Basis of Culture. As part of the AI tool use of this course, students will also be required to generate and submit additional reading materials generated through AI.

Please note: students will be required to sign up for one or more AI services.

Due to the evolving nature of AI, this course will only be offered in the Summer of 2025 and will not be repeated. It can be taken in conjunction with the Fall and Spring editions of Adulting or it can be taken on its own.
