Terrific Tessellations

At their meeting on Tuesday, November 18, students in Math Club for the Logic Stage created tessellations using tiledart.com A tessellation is a pattern of geometric shapes that fit together perfectly on a plane without any gaps or overlaps and can repeat in all directions infinitely. Dutch artist M.C. Escher is famously known for these types of artworks.
tiledart.com has a gallery of samples as well as further information on symmetries. The tiles are created via animations. Club advisor Eileen Arendt also shared a tool she learned about through the National Museum of Mathematics called “Conway’s Magical Pen”. She demonstrated how to use the tool during the club meeting, and has included her design in the slideshow.
Students are doing really cool things with Ms. Arendt in Math Club!
