Noor Ashfaq Wins Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Award

Congratulations to Class of 2027 student Noor Ashfaq on winning the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Fair Talent Search Award.
Noor, a Well-Trained Mind Academy junior, has been competing in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science fairs since seventh grade. Each year for the past five years, she earned a first-place award at the regional fair and also qualified for the state competition at Penn State University.
Noor’s 2026 winning project investigated carbon sequestration in natural systems. She compared how sea lettuce, phytoplankton, and limestone absorb CO₂ and then detailed the real-world implications of the results for ocean acidification.
We are so impressed by Noor’s dedication to science and to solving pressing issues. We can’t wait to see what she does next!
