Kathryn Baskara, MA

I’m a lifelong learner and dedicated educator with over 15 years of experience teaching in a variety of settings. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in English from Texas A&M University and later completed a Master of Arts in English at Texas A&M University–Kingsville. My husband and I have built a lively home filled with four children, two dogs, and one cat.

As a family, we’ve lived and traveled around the world, embracing new cultures and adventures along the way. Whether exploring the outdoors, cheering on our favorite teams, competing in board games, or setting off on our next trip, we treasure time spent together. When I have free time, I enjoy reading, working out, and refinishing furniture.

My teaching philosophy on writing and rhetoric is based on the trivium of classical education and that students learn best by encountering and appreciating greatness. I first introduce students to powerful examples of writing so they can experience the beauty and force of language at its highest level. From there, instruction in grammar, structure, and rhetorical technique emerges naturally as students seek to understand and emulate what they admire. I teach from a genuine passion for language and its power to shape thought, believing that the instructor’s enthusiasm is the first step to meaningful learning. Ultimately, my goal is not only to develop skilled writers, but to cultivate in students a lasting appreciation for clear, compelling expression and thought.
