SAT Preparation Course

One-semester course. The SAT Course is an intensive semester-long course designed to familiarize students with, and prepare them for, the three-part SAT Test (math, verbal and writing). This course requires a highly-motivated student willing to commit several hours per week to practice problems, to review mistakes, and to complete exercises in preparation for the SAT. Students of all levels and any experience with the SAT will benefit from homing in on weak areas and from repeated practice and familiarity with the questions and proper test-taking strategies. Weekly lectures will review common mistakes, familiarize students with test-taking strategies and challenge each student to strengthen his or her weaknesses.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The College Board announced significant changes for the PSAT (Fall of 2023) and the SAT (Spring of 2024). Beginning with the terms listed, the PSAT and SAT will no longer be offered in a paper-based format and the tests will adopt an an “adaptive” testing style. Questions will vary in difficulty depending on how a student answers. Summer 2023 will be the last time we offer the SAT Preparation course. We will prepare students for the non-adaptive test format.

Proper preparation for the new format of the SAT requires working with online materials that are programmed for the Adaptive Format. The College Board provides a number of these materials for free. Once more adaptive format materials become available, WTMA will evaluate its ability to prepare students for the new test but cannot guarantee at this time it will offer an adaptive-test SAT preparation course in the future.
